As a Tenured Senior Investigator at the NIH, Dr. Gharib directs the intramural NIDDK Biomedical and Metabolic Imaging Branch (BMIB). He holds Specialty Board (ABMS) Certification in Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. He has over 20 years of specialized novel research and practice experience in multi-modality imaging, including nuclear medicine, molecular imaging, MRI, and CT. Dr. Gharib has capitalized on the unique environment at the NIH to develop innovative imaging methods whereby patients with metabolic disorders and rare genetic mutations can be examined. In recognition of his work, Dr. Gharib received the NIH Directors Award for “development of cutting edge, noninvasive imaging technologies permitting drastically improved resolution and disease detection while reducing the risk to patients” in 2013
